Victoria Open 2005, May 4-8
Greater Victoria hosted the 2005 Victoria Open tennis tournament May 4-8, with many additional events for seniors and wheelchair athletes.

Rain could not spoil the events on the final day, May 8, as matches moved indoors to the nearby recreation centres of Oak Bay, Cedar and Panaroma.

In the Men's Open event, Nick Coutts (Victoria) beat Max Brown (Vancouver) in a very close match 7-6; 7-6, and in the Women's Open, Steffi Gjine (North Vancouver) defeated Kim Rogers (Courtenay) 6-1; 6-2 to win the event.

Visitors and players were entertained with a Tennis Festival, which included a fitness seminar, fun activities and a display of tennis products and services.

The Victoria Open also had a second section -- a National Qualifier for top ranked-Canadian juniors -- which was held May 13-15. The second section was an organizers worst nightmare as the rains came and went and came again. So the outdoor tournament was played indoors.
