Stanley Park Open 2009
Khristina Blajkevitch, above, won the Stanley Park Women's Open title in an epic match which lasted 3 1/2 hours, Sunday, July 26.  Seventeen-year-old Khristina, the local favourite, beat  Tania Mahtani (Photo 1) from California, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5.  Earlier, in the semis, Khristina had to play another long three set match to beat Kari Wig from Cochrane, Alberta, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

In the Men's Open final, Henry Choi (Photo 2) defended his title by beating Daniel Chu (Photo 3), 6-4, 6-4.

Photo 4: Catherine Green, left, marketing manager of sponsor Dairy Farmers of Canada, presents the "Award"  to Lois Ker for her great job running the tournament with a record number of participants - 1142 to be exact.

Photo 5: From left to right, Alicia Tchaikan, Katerina Boiko, and Tracy Dong. Fourteen-year-old Katerina lost to Tania Mahtani in the Women's Open semis, 7-5, 7-5.  Katerina reached the final of the ITF event, last week, where she lost to Rio Kitagawa of Japan, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Photo 6: Paul Reber and Jerry Turek.  They beat Nick Coutts and Patrick Flint, 6-4, 7-6, to win the Men's Open Doubles. This is the second year in a row that Nick and Patrick, both from Victoria, lost in the final.  Paul Reber is from Eugene, Oregon and so is 10-year-old Nathan Hampton.  Nathan reached the quarterfinals of the Boys' 12 Champs.

Photo 7: Carmen Tham, left, and Jeremy Salvo.  Jeremy, the last year's runner-up, lost to Nick Coutts in a close match, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Men's Open Singles. Nick  then lost to Daniel Chu in the semis, 6-3, 6-3.

Photo 9: The Calgary boys.  Joshua Peck and Jackson Koke, fourth and fifth from left, lost the Boys' 12 Doubles Champs to local team Sam Gouneili and Aaron Chiu. The BC Boys saved 7 match points to win the final, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Photo 10 Roberto Molina, left, and German Kai Schrameyer.  Kai beat Patrick Anderson, 6-1, 6-0, to win the Wheelchair Men's Open Singles.
