Philip Bester at French Open
Paris, June 11, 2006 (Canadian Press) - Philip Bester of North Vancouver, above, made it to his first Grand Slam final. Bester lost to Slovakia's Martin Klizan, 6-3, 6-1 in boys singles final at French Open, Sunday.

Bester's appearance in a Grand Slam junior singles final was the first by a Canadian since Sonya Jeyaseelan lost in the final at Roland Garros in 1994.

While he has to settle for second place, Bester's effort at the tournament should give him a boost with Wimbledon just a couple weeks away.
