Whistler Junior Champs - 2009
Fourteen-year-old Joshua MacNeil, above, is warming-up on a treadmill during the tournament while his parents, Norman and Karen, are watching.  Joshua, a Whistler local, enjoyed a double celebration by beating Thomas Knight, 6-1, 7-5, in the Boys' 16 final and Kyryll Kryvchun, 6-1, 6-1, in the Boys' 14 final of this year's event September 5-7 at the Whistler Racquet Club.

Photo 1: Thanks to Ian Pike, left, and Kirk Paterson (the tournament director) for their hard work, ensuring that the tournament went smoothly although only 3three indoor courts were available over the rainy long weekend.

Photo 2: Friends, rivals and schoolmates, Jack Karp, left, and Sam Gouneili.  Sam beat Jack in a close match, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7, to win the Boys' 12 final. This is Sam's sixth tournament win in a row!
 
Photo 3: Jenny Gjine, left, and Julien Bruce.  Jenny (Stefi Gjine's younger sister) won the Girls' 16.  As for Julien, he lost to Joshua MacNeil in the Boys' 14 semis.

Photo 4: Ken Dahl, left, and his nephew, Julien Bruce.  Kenny was in the Men's 60 singles finals in this year's BC seniors tournament.

Photo 5: Cassie Chung , left, and her doubles partner, Margarita Kapustina.  Cassie beat Nicola Ros to win the Girls' 12 Singles. She also, with Margarita won the Girls' 12 Doubles.

Photo 6: Kyryll Kryvchun, the Boys' No. 2 player in BC, lost to Joshua MacNeil in the Boys' 14 final.

Photo 7: It must have been an interesting match to watch!
