The Clubhouse
Sharon Moxon, above, president of Capilano Tennis Club, welcomes players and special guests to the clubhouse grand-opening party, April 18.   Peter Jackson (Tennis BC), Bill Nordmark (West Van Tennis Club), Richard Walton (Mayor of the District of North Vancouver), Wayne Elderton (Grant Connell Centre), and Guy O'Byrne (Tennis Canada) were among the invited guests.

The mobile trailer, used for 30 years as the clubhouse, was no longer usable and had to be torn down, and a new clubhouse built.  The club is a non-profit association and lacked the funds and resources to deal with the task. This is when Rudy Derton, a long time member, stepped forward to help. He offered not only a substantial donation towards the building of the new clubhouse, but also personally got involved to see the project was completed. Rudy is an avid tennis player and, at age 77, still plays competitive tennis. He was seeded #2 in the men's 75 singles at Van Lawn Masters 2008, two weeks ago.

We should recognize the efforts of these community-oriented benefactors who enhance tennis in BC through their energy and generosity.

The new clubhouse is a two-story building with a full kitchen, activity areas, change rooms, and viewing deck.   New members are welcome!
